The best things to eat when you're in training mode

So, you're training for something big

Maybe a Spartan Race?

First of all...LOVE that journey for you. This will be one of the most challenging, rewarding, and inspiring things you'll ever do, so GET PUMPED.

But, it's important to remember that when you're training for something big, your workout is only half the battle. Nutrition, and getting the right types of carbs, proteins, and nutrients, is a major 🔑. So, to break it down, we've done the research to find the best foods to eat while you're training for your Spartan Race.

Protein snacks

Protein comes in sooo many delicious forms these days, and while some of them may be high in simple carbs and sugar, they're great for the athlete-in-training. You can get sweet protein cookies, pancakes, bars, and shakes that will give you the boost you need (and taste AMAZING).

Lean meat like grilled chicken

There's sooo much you can do with grilled chicken (if you eat meat). I mean, come on, even Chick-fil-A has grilled chicken nuggets! It couldn't be easier!

Granola

Add it to some yogurt with some fruit to get your complex carbs, fiber, probiotics, and a sweet fix, all in one hearty and instagrammable snack.

Avocado toast

Make it whole grain toast for double the fiber and quadruple the benefits! And, no, we will not call you basic.

Salmon

Like grilled chicken, salmon is a lean food that gives you a major protein boost. It's high in Omega 3s, which provide all sorts of magical health benefits like possibly lowering blood sugar and preventing heart disease. Salmon is super versatile and can be made in sooo many yummy ways.

Nuts

Nuts like almonds and walnuts are high in protein, fiber, vitamins and healthy fats (among other things), which means they're satisfying and won't leave you hungry. They're a great training snack because they can be eaten in lots of fun ways, and they're easy to take on the go.

Fruit

Whole fruit, like apples and bananas, are made up of both complex and simple carbs. This means that, while they are great at nourishing your body in the long run, they can also provide a quick energy boost that will hep you get you through that run you promised yourself you'd take. Not to mention, they're majorly delish.
