Conquer the Art of the Winged Eyeliner

Perfectly winged eyeliner is one of the hardest makeup trends there are.

How long should the wing be? What angle should it be at? What type of eyeliner should I use? There are so many questions that arise before you even get started with it.

First, choose your type of eyeliner. I suggest a gel eyeliner: MAC | Pro Longwear Fluidline is my go to gel. You can also use a liquid eyeliner. I suggest one that has a marker type tip because ones that are a soft felt tip can offer too much flexibility making a straight line harder to achieve if you’re first starting out: BH Cosmetics | Liquid Eyeliner or MAC | Liquid Eye Liner.

Now that you have chosen your liner type, let’s dive right into making the wing!

I start out by putting a dot between the outside corner of my eye and the end of my eyebrow. This will help me have a guide on the angle of my eyeliner. Everyone’s eye shapes and brow shapes are different. But generally, everyone needs their wing to move towards the direction of the end of the brow. An image

Next, I thinly make a line across the upper lash line. An image

Once that is finished, I make a triangle shape of the wing. I draw the wing shape up to the dot and I make a line down to the lash line to connect all the lines together. An image

Now, I fill in the triangle. I also will work on the third line we did and soften that line into a swoop and thicken the lash line starting from the middle of the pupil. An image

A perfect wing just like that!
