7 Spring Break beauty mistakes to avoid

Don't let these beauty faux pas ruin your Spring Break

This time of year we seem to find ourselves in a bit of a beauty rut. However, with Spring Break coming I think it's safe to say we're back, baby, and just in time for beach vacations and cross-country voyages. While we're excited to feel the sun on our skin and shake the ocean out of our hair-- it's important to remember that the elements really wreak havoc on said skin and hair. A few simple beauty mistakes can totally ruin your vacation and we don't want that! For tips on sidestepping these classic beach slip-ups, keep reading!

1. Don't drop a ton of money on a manicure

The idea is not to go #SpringBroke, so do your own nails. Nothing will scream PARTY quite like this Glow in the Dark nail polish from Claire's. Maybe you don't want to paint your nails at all, if that's the case, how effing cool are these Press On Nails from one of our fav makeup brands LimeCrime?! When it comes to our toes, we like to stay a little bit safe and always try to opt for something that will make us look tan. We love Urban Outfitters' polish selection and we think Butter might be on our toes for a long while.

2. Don't get waxed right before you go swimming

We know you want the perfect bikini line when you're running down the beach in your teeny tiny bikini, but you do NOT want to feel the burn in that area. The trick is to avoid shaving or waxing immediately before you take a dip, as hair removal methods tend to make skin more sensitive. That said, we love this DIY wax kit you can scoop up at StockNGo. We're not just worried about our bikini line when we're Spring Breaking, so facial wax strips from Boohoo might save your life. If your skin is super sensitive, try this electric Shaver and Epilator from Panasonic.

3. Don't forget to shield your strands

Salt water, chlorine and sun wreak havoc on your hair! To avoid looking frizzy and crazy, make sure to use moisturizing products like Advanced Split End Therapy from gHd. Dry hair is really hard to untangle when it's wet, but be careful when you're brushing it out! Use a wide-toothed comb like this one from Urban Outfitters. If you want to embrace hair straight from the ocean, pick up a bottle of Captain Blankenship Mermaid Sea Salt Spray.

4. Don't bring your whole makeup bag

This might be hard for some of you to hear, but don't bring too much makeup with you. Honestly, you prob shouldn't be wearing much at all anyway! If you play it the right way and bring a great multi-purpose makeup palette, you won't need much of anything else! We are so smart. We're a big fan of Sigma Beauty's Nightlife Eye Shadow palette. MAC also has a palette for any mood. We recommend going totally natural while you're away because you'll be sun-kissed and glowing, but in the event that you get a little too red, try this Conceal and Correct Cream Palette 12 Shades from Boohoo.

5. Don't overdo it on the fake tan

Rather than giving yourself the fake tan of the century, try and get an all natural glow by staying moisturized and hydrated! Literally, glow from the inside out when you drink from this water bottle from Cotton On that's built for infusing! Try different fruit combinations (like strawberry & mint, YUM) that promote wellness and healthy skin. Slather on REN Skincare's Evercalm™ Gentle Cleansing Milk, the Calendula Oil helps to soothe and heal. Plus it'll treat, hydrate and replenish your skin after a day of beaching and drinking. We're rather obsessed with Korean beauty products, and this Oh K! Glowing Skin Gold Leaf Mask from ASOS is guaranteed to get you glowing.

6. Don't skip sunscreen

This should be the most obvious advice on the list. It's super important to shield your skin from the harmful rays of the sun, but what's just as important is to remember to reapply obsessively. You can't go wrong with La Roche-Posay Anthelios 30 Cooling Water-Lotion Sunscreen which we picked up at Pharmapacks. Even if you're not hitting the beach, make sure that your daily moisturizer has sunscreen built right in, you don't want advanced wrinkles, do you? Mario Badescu Oil Free Moisturizer with SPF 30 from Urban Outfitters is our go-to. After you've slathered on your sunscreen, it's okay to hope to accelerate that tan a little bit! The best tan we EVER got was when our Mom passed us Bain de Soleil Mega Tan Sunscreen w/ Self Tanner. It only has SPF4 though, so seriously, wear it OVER your 30+.

7. Don't forget the dry shampoo

Any vacation anywhere in the whole world calls for dry shampoo. What did we ever do before we discovered it? Our favorite drugstore brand is Batiste and we have tried THEM ALL. It doesn't leave a chalky white residue which is pretty damn hard to come by. Elizabeth And James Nirvana Dry Shampoo is utilizes natural rice starch and soaks that oil right up. It creates a gritty-cool texture that makes our hair less-shiny but more manageable. The dry shampoo most recently on our radar is R+Co Skyline Dry Shampoo Powder and it manages to maintain a bit of the gloss and shine that other dry shampoos take away from your locks. It manages to extend your blowout an extra day or two and that, my friends, is the most important thing.
