6 celebs who have shown it’s okay to have anxiety

Anxiety can affect us all in different ways at different times, and is something that should be taken seriously. With a rise in the number of people dealing with anxiety, we’ve taken a look at the many celebs talking about their personal experiences and giving them kudos for speaking about it. Hopefully more people will realize that it’s great to talk and help is out there.

1. Chris Hughes

Chris spoke to Loose Women about his struggle with mental health and has always been open and honest about his battle with anxiety. Last year, Chris posted on his Instagram stating how hypnotherapy had helped him through some difficult times.

2. Zayn

The former One Direction star has previously pulled out from live performances due to struggles with his anxiety. Zayn has said ‘I speak about it so that people understand that it doesn't matter what level of success you have, where you're from, who you are, what sex you are, what you do - you can still experience these things’.

3. Adele

Adele doesn’t try to hide the fact that the only reason she tours is for her fans. Despite going on a world tour and selling out Wembley, performing live to large crowds is still not something she’s overly keen on: ‘I get so nervous with live performances that I’m too frightened to try anything new.’

4. Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding is another music artist who has struggled with anxiety. When she burst onto the music scene in 2010, with her album Lights, little did we know at the same time she was suffering from panic attacks and anxiety. Ellie turned to boxing and kickboxing to help become stronger and believes it helps her in other areas of her live, and that exercise really is good for the soul.

5. Kristen Stewart

After rising to fame after the success of Twilight, Kristen Stewart explained to Elle UK that she struggled with anxiety and panic attacks with her newfound fame. Between the ages of 15 and 20, Kristen explained to Marie Claire magazine: ‘I was constantly anxious. I was kind of a control freak. If I didn't know how something was going to turn out, I would make myself ill, or just be locked up or inhibited in a way that was really debilitating.’

6. Demi Lovato

Having spent several stints in rehab to overcome her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, bulimia, self-harm, anxiety and bipolar disorder, Demi Lovato says she’s on a mission to breakdown the stigma surrounding mental health. Like Ellie Goulding, Demi Lovato has also highlighted that exercising is one way she deals with anxiety.

7. Emma Stone

Emma Stone is part of the #MyYoungerSelf campaign to raise awareness about mental health for children, and has previously opened up in a video with Child Mind Institute: ‘It’s so normal. Everyone experiences a version of anxiety or worry in their lives.’ Emma goes on to explain that she struggled with anxiety and panic disorder as a child, and ‘wouldn’t change it for the world’ because it makes her feel things deeply.
