12 activities to do this Memorial Day

FREEDOM

That's the only thing on your mind for this 3-day weekend. That being said, with one more day... what are you going to do with it? You can't just sit at home (I mean you can but who wants that?). If you're at a loss for what to do, don't worry. I've got your back. Below are just 12 activities you can fill your weekend up.

1. Host a bbq

This is a classic. Make sure at least one person knows how to work the grill (aka if you invite me I will just show up with chips as I don't want the party to go up in flames). It's a Memorial Day classic, so kick off the weekend right.

2. Have a picnic

If you're not adept with a grill, grab some burgers (or whatever you want) from your favorite spot and head to the park. Hopefully the weather is nice where you are.

3. Watch a parade

Whether you're in a small town or a big city, there's almost certainly going to be a parade. If anything, it'll make you feel nostalgic and is a great way to spend time with family or friends.

4. Go on a bike ride

Get out and explore. I'm not much of a hiker but I'm always down for a bike ride. If you don't own a bike, look into renting one or maybe go on a bike tour.

5. Send a care package

If you want to show support for the Military this Memorial Day, think about sending a care package. There are several ways that you can do this, including making it yourself or going through a service that specializes in these care packages.

5. Go tubing

If you live near a waterpark, you're set. That being said, no waterpark is necessary! All you need is a (lazy) river or a lake and a strong boat/jet ski and you're in for one hell of a time.

6. Visit a cemetery

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who passed while serving. If appropriate, take some time out to visit and pay your respects.

7. Jump in the pool (or just relax by it)

It's the unofficial kickoff for Summer, which means that temperatures are rising and you're sweating up a storm. Cool off with a dip in the pool or just lounge by it and take in the sun. Either way, you're sure to get a good pic for the gram.

8. Visit a museum of Military History

Find out just what it is you're celebrating by visiting a museum. You can learn something about past wars and get out of the heat for a few hours.

9. Go camping

Light a fire, bust out the s'mores, and gather your friends. All you need is a couple of tents and a sleeping bag to camp. If traditional camping isn't your style, try glamping. If you want to avoid the outdoors at all cost... set up some sleeping bags in a living room and put on Harry and the Hendersons.

10. Go to a baseball game (or play one)

Ah yes, America's pastime. Nothing says "SUMMER IS HERE" like going to a baseball game. My personal favorites are the Astros but you should go to whatever major league, summer league, minor league game that's nearby. If you would rather play than watch, get your friends together and go to a local park!

11. Head to the beach

The same reasoning for the pool works for the beach as well. It might be packed but this is the first REAL beach weekend and you absolutely need to take advantage of it.

12. See an outdoor movie (or an indoor one)

The BEST movies come out during the Summer, that's a fact. I mean, everyone's out of school so we all have more time to catch a flick every now and again. Shake things up by going to an outdoor screening in a park, at a drive in, or even in your own backyard. Want to beat the heat? Go to your regular theater.
