6 fitness trends to try this year

Through January, everyone's on the health and fitness band wagon and keen to change their lifestyle for the better. But the temptation of left over Christmas chocolate and the crowded dieting world all telling you different things can make it hard to figure out what to do. But don't worry, these key fitness trends are set to be massive this year and they're sure to get you feeling fitter and healthier!

Wearable technology

Seeing results is important when trying to get fit and what better way to do that than with a super smart bit of wearable tech? Products such as the Fitbit make it easy to track everything that you're doing and also make the whole thing much more fun too!

Strength training

Celebrities such as Millie Mackintosh and Rosie Fortescue are leading the way to a stronger 2016 with the hashtag 'strong not skinny'. Before, girls especially, may have shied away from any weight training but this year we're all about the muscle!

Counting macros

When it comes to food, there are so many different things to count. Is it more important to count calories or to look at the sugar content? What about fat vs saturated fat? Well why not switch to the system of counting macronutrients (or macros). Macros are a way of counting the fat, protein and carb content in your foods so that it's clearer to see what needs changing and how you can see the progress you're hoping for.

Tabata

Tabata is very similar to HIIT training; exercising in short but tough bursts. You can adapt it to suit any exercise or body part and then you use very specific timings of exercise and rest to make up a 4 or 5 minute workout that will keep your body burning fat for up to 72 hours after a workout!

Eat clean

There are a lot of foodie trends set for this year; so far loads of people are already trying vegetarian or vegan for 2016. If you're an avid meat eater though, you could try eating raw (uncooked food, meaning you can still eat air-dried ham such as prosciutto among other things) or paleo (eating only unprocessed foods packed with natural protein and nutrients).
