5 recipes you HAVE to try during freshers

Sweet sticky and teriyaki salmon

After a week of eating microwave meals and pizza, sometimes your body just craves something good and healthy. What’s better than a good piece of fish with veggies, served with rice or couscous?

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet of YO! Sweet & Sticky Teriyaki Sauce
  • 2 responsibly sourced salmon fillets
  • 2 small red onions, cut into wedges
  • 2 spring onions, sliced
  • 1 pak choi, peeled

Method:

  1. Pre heat oven to 200C/180C fan assisted or gas mark 6.
  2. Roughly chop the red onions, trim off spring onion roots and chop roughly and peel the leaves off the pak choi.
  3. Half the vegetables and add to the middle of a roasting tin on grease proof paper. Add one salmon fillet on top of the vegetables and crinkle the sides of the paper to keep in all the juices. Repeat with the second salmon fillet.
  4. Place in the pre heated oven and bake for 17 minutes.
  5. Take out of the oven and thickly coat the salmon in Sweet & Sticky Teriyaki and cook for another 3 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven and serve on rice or couscous. optional: sprinkle mixed sesame seeds on top for that extra crunch.

Sticky BBQ yakitori chicken

These tasty skewers are great for when people turn up at your flat. You can share while watching movies and chilling.

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet of YO! Sticky BBQ Yakitori Sauce
  • 800g skinless & boneless chicken thigh cut into chunks
  • 2 red onions cut into wedges
  • 1 red pepper cut into chunks
  • 1 green pepper cut into chunks

Method:

  1. Pre heat oven to 200C/180C fan assisted or gas mark 6.
  2. Remove any fat from the chicken thighs and cut into 1-inch chunks.
  3. Slice the red onions into wedges.
  4. Deseed both red & green peppers and cut into chunks.
  5. Thread chicken and vegetable pieces alternately onto your skewers.
  6. Generously brush half of YO!’s Sticky BBQ Yakitori over the skewers.
  7. Place skewers onto a baking tray and place into the oven for 25 minutes, turn after 10 minutes. Brush the remaining sauce over skewers to serve.
  8. Alternatively, the skewers can be placed onto the BBQ turning regularly, whilst generously brushing with sauce for an even cook. Serve with a summer salad, buttery corn on the cobs and crisp toasted pitta breads.

Soy ginger and garlic yakisoba

This one is quick and easy, even the most inexperienced of us can manage this! It looks impressive too, so all your mates will be jel.

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet of YO! Soy, Ginger & Garlic Yakisoba Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • 300g of stir fry ready to eat vegan noodles
  • 1 pak choi peeled
  • 1 carrot cut into thick strips
  • 1 red pepper cut into strips
  • 50g of bean sprouts
  • 1 spring onion finely chopped
  • 1 red onion sliced

Method:

  1. Heat the oil in a wok and add the chopped vegetables, stir fry for 3 minutes.
  2. Add the noodles and heat through following packet instructions.
  3. Add the packet of sauce to the wok, toss and stir fry for 2 minutes and serve straight away. Delicious, quick and easy

Sriracha dirty fries

Everyone needs this recipe in their life! Sriracha should be a staple of any student kitchen and you won’t regret pairing it up with another student fave- the glorious french fry. Great for pre-drinks or vegging out.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of YO! Sriracha Mayo
  • 250g skinny fries
  • 3 spring onions finely chopped
  • 4 rashers of smoky bacon
  • 250g grated cheddar cheese

Method:

  1. Cook the fries following the packet instructions.
  2. Slice the bacon into small pieces and fry until crisp, remove from the pan and leave to one side.
  3. Place half of the fries on a plate and sprinkle with some of the cheese, place the remaining fries on top and then the remaining cheese.
  4. Place under the grill to melt the cheese.
  5. Generously cover the cheesy fries in YO! Sriracha Mayo and sprinkle the bacon & spring onion on top and serve. Warning – seriously delicious. You are welcome!

Sweet and fruity tonkatsu bacon

Great after a heavy night out or if you need something juicy to power you through a day of studying!

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle of YO! Sweet & Fruity Tonkatsu Sauce
  • 1 loaf of bread
  • 1 packet of bacon
  • butter for spreading

Method:

  1. Place the bacon either in a frying pan or under the grill to cook.
  2. Butter two pieces of bread and place the cooked bacon on one side.
  3. Pour the Tonkatsu over the bacon and place the other piece of bread on top. Cut in half, serve and make another
