5 Staples Every College Girl Needs in Her Spring Wardrobe

A university girl’s spring wardrobe isn’t complete without a few essential pieces to get them through the awkward transitional weather that is constantly switching between hot and cold, windy and calm.

Here are the top five pieces to have as the days get sunnier, skies get bluer, and the spring breeze blows stronger:

1. Denim Jacket

Denim jackets are an absolute must this spring. Not only are they totally on-trend, with celebrities like Ariana Grande, Kylie Jenner, and Gigi Hadid all recently sporting the look, they are also a great way to layer up and keep the wind out in this breezy spring weather. Plus, they’re super durable, so your jacket will last through many more springs to come and would even work double-duty as a functional fall layer. Another great thing about denim jackets is that they’re sold in a lot of variety, making it easy to find one that fits your style. Opt for an oversized version for an edgy take on the trend, a classic fit for that timeless look, one with some fleece, for a little extra warmth, or a colored variety for a bit of flare. 2. Baseball Tee

If you don’t have one of these classic tops already, it’s time to get one! Baseball tees are great for spring since their simple design, often featuring ¾ length or long sleeves, is a sporty and flattering fit on any girl. Since the shirt style is named after America’s favorite pastime, and spring training for baseball starts up around this time of year, it’s basically already branded itself a spring must-have whether you’re planning to wear it to a game or not. The trend is also super popular in the media, think of Cheryl Blossom’s HBIC baseball crop on the CW series Riverdale. Find a variety of colors for a low cost at H&M, or copy Cheryl’s look with a cropped version. If you’re a true baseball fan, get a tee featuring a team logo. An image img source

3. Jumpsuit

Trust me on this one: a jumpsuit in springtime will be your best friend. Jumpsuits, by nature, are a very versatile pieces, and finding one to make a staple in your wardrobe for spring 2019 is an absolute must. Jumpsuits have been rising in popularity over the last years, and springtime is a great time to add this to your wardrobe staples because the one-piece top and bottom is great for transitional weather, especially ones made of lighter materials. Jumpsuits manage to cover a lot of ground in terms of functionality since they are great standalone pieces, but can also be layered and dressed up or down with shoes and accessories. Don’t know what kind of jumpsuit will suit you? ASOS sells jumpsuits in a variety of styles and sizes, so you’re bound to find something to suit your tastes. An image img source

4. Sandals

Spring weather means its time to start embracing the higher temperatures, and that means its time to get some sandals. Whether your go-to is a classic pair of flip-flops or some Birkenstocks, open-toed sandals are the perfect shoe pair with any outfit to make it feel like spring has finally sprung. If you’re looking for something a little more sophisticated with your sandals, check out some open-toed heels or wedge/flatform varieties to get a clean look with a bit of height. Sandals are also perfect for springtime adventuring, so a sportier functional set would be perfect for hiking. And if you’re more of a trendsetter, check out some 90s inspired jellies, since the popular style is definitely coming back into fashion this year. An image img source

5. High-waisted shorts

This one is kind of a no-brainer. High-waisted shorts are great for transitional weather since they can be styled in many different ways, and they are also flattering on a variety of body types since they accentuate the waist. For windy days, layer with a pair of tights and a cardigan, or tuck in a light sweater or tee shirt to get a classic look. For sunny days, pair them with a crop top or tank to really soak in those rays. If you want a more professional-looking short, try something with a paper bag waist. If you want something casual, opt for some jean cut-offs for that music festival-ready, easy, breezy look. Don’t be afraid to experiment with light materials and colors – spring is a great time to wear bright colors and pastels, and light materials are a staple for the season. An image img source
