5 ways to level up your autumn wardrobe

Autumn can be a tricky season in the UK. One minute it’s near freezing temperatures, the next we’re back up to 18 degrees and being prepared is half the battle. To help you transition through autumn and into the colder months, I’ve lined up 5 ways you can nail your autumn wardrobe, keeping warm whilst looking effortlessly cool.

Layering is key

The key to managing your temperature in tricky weather is to make your outfit work for you, not just look good. By opting for multiple layers, you can easily add or remove pieces as required throughout the day. Each item should also hold up on it’s own as a top layer should you need to ditch the rest in a hurry.

Boot up

Autumn can be a nightmare for trainers. The falling leaves, wet ground and muck is something only a good pair of boots can withstand. Opting for something you can wear day to day is key and laced boots with a chunky sole such as this pair from Office will look great with your autumn layers.

Get a waterproof

If there’s one thing we can rely on in the UK it’s a random shower at the most inconvenient of times. Rain jackets like this lightweight number from ASOS are ideal for carrying around whilst being protective. You can store them away when not needed, grabbing them out in a hurry when the heavens start to open.

Set the tone

One of the things I love most about autumn are the different colours and the warmth they bring to an outfit. Opting for reds, mustard yellows and browns is a sure fire way to add that autumnal feeling to an outfit. Pair these with chunky materials such as borg and fleece and you’re onto a winner.

It’s in the bag

A good bag is the key to surviving the transitional weather. If you’ve already started layering up, having somewhere to store those extra bits of clothing is a must. You will also likely need an umbrella and potentially some of your favourite grooming products such as deodorants and hair clay. Styles such as this classic Fjall Raven backpack are the perfect size and an ideal way to tie an outfit together.
