10 things you need to do in 2018

Let’s face it, we all make New Year’s resolutions we don’t keep; so instead of setting yourself up for failure this year, why not make a list of ten amazing things you actually want to do? We called on our friends at DesignMyNight for the inside scoop on 2018’s best events, so you can start packing out your diary. Whether you want to venture to London’s sassiest drag queen brunch or take on a treasure hunt across Brighton; consider this your bucket list for the next 365 days.

1. Go to London’s first ever garage brunch - London

If the lyrics ‘Re-Rewind. Enter, selecta’ stir something special deep inside; you’ll be delighted to hear that there’s a Garage Brunch coming to London. Prepare to be transported into a 90s rave with your fave tunes from some of the decade’s most adored acts, from So Solid Crew to DJ Luck and MC Neat. Food-wise: you’ll be chomping down on fried chicken (or veggie fritters) with ‘Bo' Selecta’ apple pie and ice cream, and there’s gonna be an entire hour of bottomless cocktails too. You might want to sharpen up your garage music knowledge before you visit though - there’s going to be Garage Bingo and a ‘Name That Tune’ game.

2. Dive into one million balls at London’s ball pit bar - London

If you haven’t got around paying Ballie Ballerson a visit yet, for the love of fun get yourself down there this year. This adult playground bar boasts three giant ball pits with over one million balls. Yup, you heard. You can dive into a UV ball-pit (just make sure your phone doesn’t fall out your pocket) and shun adulthood for the evening with a hoard of cocktails inspired by retro sweets. This place also does a bottomless brunch every weekend, and it’s rumoured to be the best thing since sliced bread.

3. Visit a BYOB cocktail bar - London

There’s a tonne of reasons to love London, but the price tag when doing certain things isn’t one of them; which is why you should check out one of the city’s BYOB bars. We’re not talking about going to any old BYOB bar mind, we’re talking about Alcotraz: London’s first ever prison-themed bar. You’ll become an inmate for the evening (complete with an orange jumpsuit, inmate number and cell), before taking on the challenge of smuggling your favourite spirit past the wardens, where if you’re successful - mixologists will whip you up contraband cocktails until you’ve lived out your sentence.

If you’re in the business of trying out bottomless brunches; The Breakfast Club’s is calling your name. Set in their secret bar, Dr Kluger’s Olde Town Tavern, the afternoon will kick off with a full English breakfast (both vegetarian and vegan options are available) and free-flowing prosecco, before a bunch of unruly drag queens cause mayhem around you. Things will wrap up around 3.30pm but you’ll be entitled to 2-4-1 drinks for the rest of the night with your ticket.

5. Make your own gin at The Imperial Durbar - London

If you’re a self-confessed gin lover, there’s only one way to start this year: with one of The Imperial Durbar’s Ginfusion classes. You’ll be equipped with a pestle and mortar, kilner, and bell jar before grinding down your hand-picked herbs and spices, ready to infuse into your very own gin. You’ll get a complimentary cocktail to keep you going throughout the class, before taking home two bottles of your very own batch.

Over 175 breweries from London to America will be turning up to cater to your beer-loving needs (with a few ciders thrown in for good measure).

Whether you’re partial to a brisk walk or you like the idea of a fun detour to the pub; it’s about time you took on a Great Game Treasure Hunt. Kicking off at Brighton Bagelman Train Station, you and your cronies will be galavanting across the city cracking clues and riddles to find the treasure (a historic Brighton boozer). You’ll be armed with a compass, a map with clues and mini guide to Brighton. Follow all the steps correctly and you’ll be rewarded with 20% off your food and drink bill at the pub.
