Best and worst dressed at The Oscars

There’s one particular moment stealing all the limelight from The Oscars on Sunday 26th February. Yep, you know it. Faye Dunaway naming La La Land as the year’s best picture, only to be corrected a few moments later (whilst the musical’s cast celebrated on stage) by La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz who declared the real winner as Moonlight. We get it, it’s kinda a big deal. But what about everything else that happened? The glamorous dresses, the big winners… Ryan Gosling’s beautiful face. Let’s discuss!

The real low down

Aside from the disastrous cock-up, Jimmy Kimmel somehow managed to keep the three and a half hour ceremony afloat with his cheeky and charming personality. With one key chaotic moment, here’s a few moments that seemed to have gone a little unnoticed:

Mahershala Ali became the first Muslim winner, for Moonlight. It was the first Oscars in a decade where there has been more than one black winner with Ali and Viola Davis winning for Fences. Over-achiever Damien Chazelle became the youngest ever director winner at the age of 32. The Harry Potter franchise picked up its first Oscar with Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. With his 21st attempt, sound mixer Keven O’Connel finally won an Oscar!

Best dressed

Let’s take a little time to appreciate a few of the best-dressed superstars who graced the red carpet in LA. From Taraji P Henson’s timeless glamour to a couple of horrendous yellow dresses sported by Blanca Blanco and Leslie Mann.

Emily Ratajkowski

Wearing a shimmering floor-length figure-hugging gown, Emily looked stunning in a breathtaking sleeveless dress. Accessorising with sparkling earrings and smoky eye make-up Emily’s style game was definitely on point.

Viola Davis

Viola had a night to remember after becoming the first black woman to win an Oscar, Emmy and a Tony, way to go girl! Looking flawless in a bright red Armani gown she kept things simple, but absolutely stunning.

Amy Adams

Simple and sophisticated with a touch of sparkle. Amy Adams wore a beautiful sparkling Tom Ford number with a statement v neck cut.

Karlie Kloss

Karlie Kloss’s outfit was so on point. Making an unexpected appearance her asymmetrical Stella McCartney white gown completely stole the show. The unusual dress featured a cape which only covered one of her shoulders. Sounds horrendous but it definitely worked. Pairing her glam look with an oversized floral diamond choker and earrings, her hair and make-up channelled Hollywood glamour vibes.

Hailee Steinfeld

Only 20 years old, Hailee Steinfeld turned up in a completely dreamy dress. The Pitch Perfect 2 star definitely made heads turn wearing a floral halterneck number with ruffle detailing throughout.

Nearly there

Not quite ‘best dressed’ but definitely not far away:

Naomie Harris

Despite being completely on trend with an all white number, Moonlight actress has gone against the usual with a Calvin Klein dress which felt a little too informal for such a glamorous event.

Priyanka Chopra

Sporting a daring geometric white and silver panel dress, if it wasn’t for the dramatic neckline she may have made it onto the best-dressed list!

Worst dressed

It’s time to name and shame. What some of these superstars were thinking I do not know. Sack the stylist!

Blanca Blanco

Yellow pattern, gigantic shoulder features, red belt and a major side slit. It has now been proved that these features do not make the perfect red carpet look, that’s for sure!

Leslie Mann

Although yellow is supposedly the colour of the season, unfortunately the style of this dress is a little more Beauty and the Beast, rather than red carpet ready.

What did you think to everything that happened? Which look was your fave?
