1. Walk the East Coast at the Holy Island of Lindisfarne

Make your way to the East Coast train station of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and follow in the footsteps of ancient monks, vikings and pilgrims for a magical walk. Cross the causeway to discover the tidal island of Lindisfarne. Dating back to the 6th century this place is steeped in history with castles, lighthouses and abbeys waiting for you to explore.

Follow in the footsteps of ancient monks, Vikings and pilgrims by crossing to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne for a truly beautiful day walk. Dating back to the 6th century, Lindisfarne is steeped in fascinating history. Castles, lighthouses and abbeys lie in wait for those who make the crossing across the causeway. One thing to note is to make sure you check the tide times so you’re not stuck on the island, choose your starting time two hours before low tide so you’re walking with the outgoing tide, rather than the rising tide.

2. Take a day trip to explore York

Placed perfectly between Edinburgh and London, York can often be overlooked as it isn’t one of the UK’s biggest cities. However, it’s steeped in history and has a variety of fun things to do. From exploring the beautifully quirky streets of The Shambles to visiting York Minster. Step inside to discover the thriving church which is one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe. If that doesn’t appeal to you, take one of many guided tours, a cruise along River Ouse or explore York Dungeons. If you’re tight on money, you can always explore the National Railway Museum.

3. London on a budget

Most people assume a trip to London is going to cost a fortune, but it doesn’t have to be that way. The underground is a cheap method of transport to get around the city, just don’t forget your mask and hand sanitiser. There’s plenty of free museums and galleries that have free entry. Why not check out the Natural History Museum or Science Museum if that’s more your thing. Not forgetting all the markets you could visit from Borough Market to Camdem.

If you’re after something a little bit more adventurous, ride the Emirates cable car and view the London skyline for as little as £3.50.
